Tinubu mourns former chief of staff Abdullahi Mohammed Adangba at 86

President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of Major General Abdullahi Mohammed Adangba (retd.), a former Chief of Staff to Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

The late general, who hailed from Ilorin, Kwara State, passed away around 1 a.m. on Wednesday in Abuja at the age of 86.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described General Mohammed as disciplined, loyal, and patriotic, noting his outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s security and governance.

“General Mohammed left indelible marks on the nation’s security architecture, particularly in the establishment of the National Security Organisation, the precursor to the State Security Services, the National Intelligence Agency, and the Defence Intelligence Agency,” the statement read.

Distinguished career and public service

Apart from his role in the security sector, General Mohammed also served as Governor of the defunct Benue-Plateau State between 1975 and 1976.

Tinubu praised the general’s exceptional sense of duty, humility, and integrity, stating that his leadership left a lasting impact on the Presidency.

“He was a man of exemplary character, who combined the precision of a soldier with the prudence of a statesman. His years in the State House were marked by humility, efficiency, and unwavering commitment to the Nigerian project,” the statement added.

Condolences to family and nation

President Tinubu extended his condolences to the family of the late general, the government and people of Kwara State, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and all Nigerians mourning his passing.

“His contributions to national security and governance will forever be remembered,” the statement concluded.
