TOBI Amusan warmed up for the defence of her World Athletics Championships title with another big Diamond League win today.
The Nigerian star produced a strong finish to win the competitive women’s 100m hurdles at the Silesia Diamond League in Chorzow, Poland.
The world record holder (12.12 seconds) finished ahead of the stacked field in 12.34s to equal the meeting record.
She was just ahead of her rivals for next month’s Budapest World Athletics Championships, with United States of America’s Keni Harrison second in 12.35s and Nia Ali, another American, third in 12.38s.
Jamaica’s Megan Tapper came fourth in 12.49s in one of the tightest contests of the meeting.
Akani Simbine and Wayde van Niekerk of South Africa also flew the African flag high in Poland, both of them winning their races.
In the men’s 100m, Simbine finished first with 9.97s as 0.02s separated the top four in another close race.
World record holder Niekerk clocked a season’s best and meeting record of 44.08s to win the 400m.
In another impressive performance, Yulimar Rojas improved on her own triple jump world lead and set a new meeting record with a 15.18m leap in her sixth and final attempt to claim the win.
