Two foreign tourists have shared a video alleging that a Nigerian police officer stopped, questioned, and threatened to arrest them for driving a right-hand-drive vehicle, despite presenting what they said were valid border documents authorizing temporary entry.
According to the exchange captured on video, the officer repeatedly questioned their travel history, how long they intended to stay in Nigeria, and their onward journey to Cameroon. The tourists explained they had entered from Benin Republic and planned to remain in Nigeria temporarily before continuing their road trip across Africa.
Although they stated that the vehicle would not remain in Nigeria beyond the allowed period, the officer allegedly said he “would have arrested” them, suggesting that such vehicles are not commonly used locally.
The conversation later shifted to personal questions, including their marital status, finances, and travel plans. The tourists also claimed the officer made inappropriate remarks, including comments about pregnancy and offers to buy them alcohol.
They said they eventually retrieved their documents and continued their journey toward Benin City.
