US lawmaker Riley Moore reacts as bandits reportedly kidnap over 100 worshippers in Kaduna

A United States lawmaker has reacted strongly to reports of a mass abduction of Christian worshippers during church services in Kaduna State, northern Nigeria.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, involved armed bandits attacking several churches and abducting more than 100 worshippers, according to local reports.

US Lawmaker Condemns Church Attacks

Reacting on X, formerly Twitter, US Congressman Riley Moore described the attack as horrific and raised concern about repeated assaults on Christian communities.

Moore alleged that radical Fulani militants were responsible for the attacks, warning that Christians in parts of Nigeria were facing serious and ongoing threats.

He wrote, “Horrific news. Armed radical Muslim Fulani attacked three churches yesterday and kidnapped more than 100 Christian worshippers.”

“Our brothers and sisters in Christ are facing an existential threat at the hands of the Fulani militants,” Moore added.

He urged the Nigerian government to act swiftly to secure the safe return of all abducted worshippers and improve protection for vulnerable communities.

Details of the Alleged Kaduna Church Abductions

The abductions reportedly took place in the Kurmin Wali area of Kajuru Local Government Area during ongoing church services.

Sources told SaharaReporters that gunmen stormed multiple churches, forcing worshippers to leave with them at gunpoint.

A family member of one of the victims confirmed that over 100 people were taken during the coordinated attacks.

Reports also indicated that about ten abducted persons, described as vulnerable, were later released by the attackers.

Security agencies have been informed of the incident, while residents await further updates from authorities.

Kaduna’s History of Bandit Attacks

Kaduna State has recorded several deadly attacks linked to armed bandit groups in recent years.

Earlier this month, bandits reportedly killed four members of a family during a night attack in Kachia town, Southern Kaduna.

The victims were identified as Mr Bitrus Bahago, his wife Justina, their son Ibrahim, and a relative, Adam Waziri.

According to residents, the attackers arrived in large numbers and opened fire, injuring several other people.

The injured victims were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment as the community struggled to recover from the assault.

Locals described the situation as frightening, noting repeated attacks despite the area’s closeness to security institutions.
