VDM questions Wizkid’s Grammy Award: “This is not even a real grammy”

Nigerian media personality, VDM has sparked fresh debate over the country’s music awards, questioning whether Wizkid’s Grammy wins reflect true musical artistry.

In a recent commentary, he argued that while Fela Kuti was inducted into the 2025 Grammy Awards and is set to receive a lifetime achievement award in 2026, Wizkid’s accolades, including Best Music Video, are not comparable in artistic value.

“This is not even a real Grammy” — VDM says

VDM stated, “Which song will Wizkid use to enter for the Grammy? When it comes to music as an art, he doesn’t reach anybody in the Kuti family. Wizkid doesn’t play instruments. Talking about Grammy, take a good look at Wizkid’s Grammy—it says Best Music Video. This is not even a real Grammy, bro. I call it a compensational Grammy for Blue Ivy, where the grace is touching Wizkid. Cry all you want.”

He also highlighted other Nigerian artists, noting that Burna Boy’s Global Music Album award and Tems’ recognition for Best African Music Performance better represent musical achievement.

“Now let’s talk about people that have a Grammy in the country. Burna Boy won Global Music Album, they’re not saying with anybody. Only him. Now let’s talk about another person, Tems got Grammy for Best African Music Performance. These are the people that should talk, not Wizkid,” he added.
