A man has shared a humorous but telling experience after mistakenly transferring ₦126,000 instead of ₦12,600 while paying for a meal at a restaurant, sparking conversations about consumer rights and business practices.
According to the customer, the incident occurred during a routine visit to a local eatery where payment was made via bank transfer.
However, shortly after completing the transaction, the customer realised that an extra zero had been added, resulting in a significant overpayment.
Narrating the experience, the customer said, “I mistakenly transferred ₦126,000 instead of ₦12,600 for food.” Upon discovering the error, the customer immediately notified the restaurant and requested a refund of the excess amount.
The situation reportedly escalated when the restaurant declined to issue a refund. Instead, staff allegedly suggested that the balance would be retained as store credit for future purchases.
“They told me I would use the change as store credit, that they don’t do refunds,” the customer said.
Uncomfortable with the arrangement, the customer insisted on a refund, switching from formal English to Pidgin in a bid to press the demand more firmly. “Na once my English change to pidgin, they refunded me,” the customer added.
The incident has since drawn reactions online, with many Nigerians finding humour in the situation while also raising concerns about refund policies and accountability among small businesses.
Some users noted that the outcome highlights the importance of assertiveness in resolving financial disputes.
