Watford manager Vladimir Ivic has slammed his defenders for not rising to the occasion in the club’s 1-1 draw with Wycombe on Tuesday.

The Hornets had to share the spoils for the second game running after Wycombe Wanderers came from behind to produce a 1-1 draw at Adams Park.Ismaila Sarr opened the scoring for Watford in the second half with a headed finish in the six-yard-box, but Troost-Ekong’ led defence line fell to Wycombe firepower when Anthony Stewart’s leveller earned a first point of the season for the host.

Ivic then charged Ekong and other defenders to shape up and work harder to clear their lines in subsequent matches after goalkeeper Ben Foster saved their blushes against Wycombe.

“If our goalkeeper is a man of the match, it means we had a lot of problems,” he said.“We had a lot of problems in our defensive shape, second balls it was most of the time for them and again after the set pieces we conceded a goal, it’s a lot of problems in our games, not just in the defensive line, when we had the ball we couldn’t create something that we’d prepared and this is something that we need to work on and try to be better.

“They had two or three chances at set-pieces and it’s something that we need to be focused on, especially the set pieces.“Today and in the previous game we lost four points because of the set pieces.” he told Watfordobserver.
