
A lawyer has shared reasons why couples should avoid using joint ownership names in property documents.
The lawyer identifed as Confidence Aribibia on Facebook stated that using joint ownership name ys in property documents can be a trap for couples.
According to her, under the law, it implies sole ownership by the husband, leaving the wife’s interests unprotected.
“In law, “Mr/Mrs Daniel” refers to the man alone as if he bought the property in his sole name. The wife’s interest is not protected.”, The post stated.
Furthermore, Confidence Aribibia emphasized that using actual names on property documents protects both h spouses’ interests in the marriage and the property.
