Woman arrested at 5:47 a.m. in Lagos while attempting to dump refuse at bus stop

A Nigerian woman was arrested at 5:47 a.m. while attempting to illegally dispose of refuse at a bus stop in Lagos State.

The incident was reported on X (formerly Twitter) by the Managing Director of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Muyiwa Gbadegesin, via his official handle, @muyiwag.

In his statement, Gbadegesin wrote: “At approximately 5:47 a.m. on Tuesday, 3 June 2025, @Lawma_gov Waste Infractions Surveillance and Investigation Team apprehended Ms. Amaka Onuchkwu while she was illegally off-loading refuse at the Akesan bus stop on LASU-Iba Road. This action violates Lagos State environmental regulations against indiscriminate dumping.”

He added that LAWMA operatives secured geo-tagged photos and video evidence of the offence before escorting the suspect to the Oshodi Environmental Taskforce Office.

Attempts to verify Ms. Onuchkwu’s residential address were unsuccessful.

The case file, along with digital evidence, has been forwarded to LAWMA’s legal unit for prosecution under the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law.
