Manchester United were supposedly turned down by new AC Milan signing Sandro Tonali even though they offered Brescia €10 million more according to president Massimo Celino.
Italian wonderkid Sandro Tonali has joined AC Milan from Brescia for a transfer worth €30 million overall with the transfer being a loan with obligation.
Tonali was linked with all of the big Italian clubs over the past year such as Juventus, Inter Milan, and of course AC Milan.Advert
However, according to current Brescia president Massimo Celino, Manchester United were very interested and submitted a bid of €40 million for the Italian midfielder, but was turned down by Tonali.
The disgraced former Leeds president Cellino said:
“I know that [Inter CEO] Beppe Marotta really wanted Tonali, and that [Inter head coach] Antonio Conte appreciated him, so I think his agent had agreed terms with Inter,” Cellino told Top Calcio24.
“As soon as Milan showed real interest, he did not want to listen to any other options.
“I also have a historically good rapport with Milan and we reached an agreement with [Milan technical director] Paolo Maldini quite quickly.
“We also had interest from Barcelona and Manchester United, but the lad is in love with Milan and went crazy once he heard of their offer, because he supports them.”
The reports do seem very far-fetched due to football clubs only ever submitting bids when they reach an agreement with the player in question.
However, this could be true, albeit probably not and could be Cellino using United as a way to drum up interest.
