For those of you who look forward to my weekly manicure post, I apologise sincerely for my hiatus! I decided that it was time to give my nails the much needed break from all the filing, buffing etc. However, this week I’m back with two delightful manicure colours I hope will inspire your next trip to the nail shop.

For a while now I’ve wanted to try a manicure with a matte finish, its a tad bit more edgier than the typical high shine finish which oozes sexy. So this week I took the opportunity to test it out.

Now the funny thing about the matte finish is that it doesn’t look so great on every colour. So I decided in order to get the best out of the matted look it was imperative that I choose colours like army green, something within the nude family, black or brown.

Being that I’m a lover of muted tones and the fact that Valentine’s Day was around the corner, I decided to go for a pinky nude colour called Incognito from the Dior Vernis Nail Lacquer collection (as seen below).

Once two coats of Incognito were applied to my set of acrylics a coat of Chanel Le Top Coat Velvet Long-Wear and Matte Effect.

But here are the cons to matte nails –
The great thing about a glossy top coat is that it camouflages most application mistakes, a matte top coat does the complete opposite. Matte top coats magnify any streaks, dents, smudges and unevenness.
Another disadvantage is it takes longer to dry – I’d say about a good 1 hour or 2 until your nails are completely dry and hard.
Furthermore, the matte polish does not protect your nails from chipping. Sounds like a nightmare right?! Well I lived it and for that reason after 2 and a half days of wear, I opted for a quick polish change. When in doubt I always opt for my go to colour which is red. Can you spot the touch of red nails? My toes are still Dior Incognito but without the matte finish.

This isn’t to say I won’t try the matte finish again, I may actually try it again next week with a different colour but at least now I know to keep my hands still for 2 good hours so they can dry to perfection…lol. Till next week xoxo
