Xavi: “I want to coach Barcelona”
Barcelona legend Hernandez Xavi has revealed that his main goal is to return to the club as head coach.
Xavi left the Camp Nou last season to join Qatari side Al Sadd, bringing an end to a 24-year stay at the club.
“I want to coach Barca, I’ve never hidden that,” the 36-year-old revealed in an interview with Four Four Two.
“It’s my main goal. I want to go back and work for the club.”
Xavi revealed that his love for football is still as strong as ever and that there is no doubt in his mind that he will always remain in the game.
“I want to stay linked to football, close to the pitch,” he continued. “I would hate to be locked up in an office.
“Whenever I have a quiet 10 minutes I turn on the TV to watch football. My wife knows, she hates football.
“I study team selections and look on my phone to see who has scored.
“For now it is still a hobby, and that’s the secret. If I didn’t have to train every day I would play five-a-side with my colleagues.”
Xavi has two years remaining on his contract with Al Sadd, a deal that saw him become an ambassador of the 2022 World Cup, and while he is enjoying seeing out his twilight years in Qatar, he admits it does not compare to the level of European football.
“I’m playing in Qatar, a professional league, but not like Europe,” he added. “I’m here for football and would like to leave a legacy for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.”
Xavi made 767 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions, scoring 85 goals, winning eight La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues.
