Yahaya Bello finally honours EFCC invitation

There are compelling signs that Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State, has accepted the invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding allegations of misappropriation of funds.

This development suggests a significant step in the ongoing scrutiny of financial activities associated with his administration.

The EFCC, which is tasked with combating financial crimes and corruption in Nigeria, appears to be intensifying its investigations into the alleged misuse of public resources during Bello’s tenure.

It was gathered that Yahaya Bello honoured the EFCC invitation when he went to the EFCC office with his lawyers on Tuesday afternoon. His successor, Governor Usman Ododo was not with Yahaya Bello when he came for the EFCC invitation.

The development follows the Supreme Court judgment which dismissed the case by some states governments on the constitutionality of the anti-graft agency. 

It was reliably gathered that the former governor drove himself in a black Hilux to the EFCC office with his lawyers.

There were insinuations last week that he was going to visit the EFCC but the former governor’s media aides did not respond to enquiries on the information. 

At the last hearing on November 14, the EFCC had sought for adjournment to tomorrow (November 27) in the fresh case it instituted against Bello, saying the 30-day window was still running for the summons earlier issued.

The EFCC, however, admitted his co-defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, to administrative bail and prayed the court for extension of time for the 1st Defendant to appear, a development that led to Yahaya Bello making the invitation on Tuesday.
