Cubana Chief Priest issues a stark warning to President Bola Tinubu, insisting that the administration risks losing significant electoral support in the South-East if Nnamdi Kanu remains in detention ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This comes following the recent sentencing of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to life imprisonment.

In a lengthy online statement, he argued that the region’s political climate has been severely shaped by the continued incarceration of the IPOB leader, claiming it has created resentment strong enough to limit the president’s chances of securing even minimal votes from the zone.

He criticised ministers from the South-East, accusing them of failing to convey the depth of public dissatisfaction, and questioned the influence of political actors who he said have been unable to garner genuine support for the government.

Cubana Chief Priest urged the president to reassess his advisers and political allies, stressing that many of those presenting themselves as loyalists are incapable of mobilising the region due to the widespread anger tied to Kanu’s case. He argued that only the activist’s release could restore confidence and give the ruling party a realistic chance in 2027.
