Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has called out Christian leaders in the country over what he described as their silence in the face of reported attacks on Christians.
His comments come amid renewed outrage following reports of a fresh attack on worshippers on Palm Sunday in Jos, Plateau State, allegedly carried out by suspected militia groups.
Reacting in a video shared online, Portable criticized Nigerian pastors, accusing them of failing to speak out or take action despite the situation.
He described their silence as hypocrisy, alleging that while many church leaders invest in personal security measures such as bulletproof vehicles, they have not publicly advocated for their members.
He further argued that, in his view, Islamic clerics would be more vocal if a similar situation were affecting Muslim communities, drawing comparisons between religious leadership responses.
In a mixture of Yoruba and pidgin, he said …
“Why are Nigerian pastors not fighting for Christians? They use bulletproof cars yet their followers are dying. Why can’t pastors lead protest to the Aso rock? You can’t harm a Muslim and there won’t be chaos. If you kill a traditionalist, there will be crisis. But if you kill a Christian, the pastor will look away and being enjoying in his car.”
