“You’ll be jailed if you slaughter Rams, Chickens at home” — Lady reveals

A Nigerian woman who recently returned home after more than a decade abroad has shared a striking detail about life in Malaysia, revealing how strict everyday laws can be.

Olajumoke Osafile, a Nigerian returnee, said residents in Malaysia risk spending a full year in prison if they slaughter chickens or rams inside their homes.

She made this known during a chat with The Guardian while reflecting on her years in the Asian country.

Osafile explained that Malaysia operates under very tight rules and regulations, even on matters many Nigerians consider normal daily practices.

According to her, killing animals at home for food is treated as a serious criminal offence.

She stated that anyone caught slaughtering chickens or rams at home faces a mandatory one-year jail term.

The punishment, she added, cannot be replaced with a fine or community service under any circumstance.

“People are not allowed to slaughter chickens or rams in their homes. If you are caught, you will go to jail for one year,” she said. “There is no option of paying a fine or doing community service.”

When asked why such a strict law exists, Osafile said Malaysian authorities have not publicly explained the policy.

However, she noted that many locals believe it is linked to hygiene and public health concerns.

According to this belief, animal blood can easily attract flies and cause environmental sanitation issues, especially in residential areas.

To avoid this, the government prefers all slaughtering to take place in controlled environments.

As a result, residents are required to buy meat from public markets or government-approved abattoirs rather than kill animals at home.

Osafile said the system is strictly enforced, and violations are taken very seriously.

Her revelation has since sparked discussions among Nigerians, many of whom find the law surprising when compared to local practices back home.
