Youths Storm The Streets To Protest As Flood Sweeps Away Woman In Akwa Ibom

An elderly woman identified as Lady Ekaette Okpon,  has been swept away by flood after a heavy downpour in Akwa Ibom.

It was gathered that the woman said to be from Iboko Offot, fell into a gutter along Abak road, Opp. Nkemba street in Uyo, after the heavy downpour on Wednesday evening, March 9.

Her body is yet to be recovered at the time of this report.   

Meanwhile, Iboko youths on Thursday March 10, blocked the entire stretch of Abak road from Udobio down to Ukana ofot junction to protest over the incident.

The road is currently on lockdown while vehicular movement and business activities are grounded as commuters are seen trekking to various destinations.

Security operatives are on ground to forestall breakdown of law and order.

It was further gathered that efforts by men of the Akwa Ibom State Envirnmental Protection and Waste Management Agency, AKSWEPA to begin escavation of the gutters have been rebuffed by the protesting youths.
