Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha has been warned to expect a backlash from the club’s supporters on Saturday after a summer of speculation saw him hand in a transfer request earlier this month, reports the Daily Star. 

The 26-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Everton – ironically Palace’s opponents for their Premier League opener at Selhurst Park this weekend – and Eagles boss Roy Hodgson says the club’s supporters may not be in a fogiving mood after the switch failed to materialise.

“I hope they’ll be sympathetic to him,” said Hodgson. “But whatever happens, Wilf will have to deal with that, just as he has had to deal with his disappointment over the last few days in the transfer window.”
