Zimbabweans Troop Out Thousands For The ‘Mugabe Must Go’ Protest (See Photos)
Thousands of Zimbabweans took to the streets of Harare today to demand that President Robert Mugabe who has ruled the country since 1980 step down.
The protest was organised by main opposition party, the Movement for Democratic Change. Estimates put the number of people that turned out at between 2000 and 10000 protesters.
The protesters assert that the over 9o years old Mugabe is too old and clueless to still be leading the country.
Addressing the crowd, MDC-T leader, Morgan Tsvangirai made it clear that the protest was not to call for a revolution but merely to demand for fair elections.
“We are not demanding an overthrow of the government…We are demanding a dignified exit for the tired Mugabe,” Tsvangirai said. “It’s time Mugabe listens to the voice of the people. The people shall liberate themselves.”
The protest had sufferred a hitch when organisers were initially denied the licence to match but the nation’s High Court gave the go-ahead.
