Fresh New Designers to Watch in 2018 (Get In Here)

    Posted by on January 3, 2018,

In no particular order, here are some of the best new designers to look out for in 2018;

Samuel Noon, the brand that showed us ‘Yellow’ at the most recent Lagos Fashion and design week is most definitely one to watch. His take on structured pieces gives new meaning to the aesthetic, and we love every bit of it. Asides a great debut at the LFDW fashion focus, he also seems to be accumulating a fan base of some stylish celebrities from Adesua Etomi, to Bolanle Olukanni, to Kate Henshaw amongst others. This year showed us that the Samuel Noon brand is a talented one and we hope to see more in the new year.

Men’s wear designer and creator of the Legendary ‘Ebuka Agbada’ is one designer I would love to see more of in 2018. Even before the Ebuka spectacle, his pieces which had a debut look book this year was one that changed traditional two-pieces as we know it. There were the Agbada kimonos, the bows and Chinese inspired drapes which already gave him a designer to watch status as far as I’m concerned. I can’t wait to see the wonders he’ll work on in 2018, perhaps a suited take on the Igbo attire?

Silk enthusiast (lol), Imad Eduso is next on this list, this year her impeccably finished pieces have been a favorite for stylish personalities from our very own Derin to Mimi Onaloja to Adesua Etomi. We expect loads more of silky goodness from her in 2018.

And last but definitely not least is Emmy Kasbit who was also a part of the Fashion focus program this year. The contemporary men and women’s wear designer who gives ethnicity an urban feel with his pieces, was a fave this year. Originally making two piece bespoke suits, he broadened the horizon this year first with his Nomad collection, which had Camel nude toned pieces and shirts with catchy quotes like”paddle your own canoe”, and much later with his use of Akwete cloth in his “An ode to my father” collection at this year’s fashion week. We would most def be on the Look out Emmy!
