The Nation reports that one hundred and seven Nigerians who were stranded in Libya have been repatriated.
The returnees arrived at the cargo wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, aboard an AlBuraq Air Boeing 737-800 with registration number 5A-DMG, at about 3:45 pm on Tuesday, said the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
According to NEMA, the latest batch has brought to 690 the total of stranded Nigerians returned to Lagos in five flights since February through the International Organisation of Migration (IOM)-assisted programme.
NEMA said profile of the returnees indicated that there were 48 women, five girls and an infant female, adding that three of the women had medical cases.
It also said that there were 49 men, three boys and one infant male.
According to NEMA’s Director General, Mustapha Ahmed, who was represented by the agency’s Chicken of Relief and Rehabilitation Officer, Aziz Afunku, a total of 105, 281 and 259 returnees were received in February, March and April, respectively.
“The International Organisation for Migration (IOM), with the support of international partners, has been assisting distressed Nigerians stranded in Libya back to since 2017,” he said.
