2 year old boy left in body cast and 30 stitches to the head after his dad tried to kill kim

A Colorado man has been jailed after being accused of the attempted murder of his 2-year-old son, who cops say he tried to kill by intentionally crashing his car. Police said 29-year-old Nathan Weitzel placed his toddler son, Isaiah, into his car on August 21 after buckling his own seatbelt, but not his son’s. Weitzel then allegedly crashed the car into several other vehicles in an attempt to kill his son.
Fortunately, Isaiah survived the accident but suffered life-threatening injuries, including a ripped a muscle in his neck that’s left him in a neck brace, a head injury that required 20 to 30 stitches he also had to get surgery on his leg, and received five screws in his knee. Isaiah is also in a plaster cast from the waist down.

Police say Weitzel admitted to using cocaine that day and that he told them “the reason he wanted to kill Isaiah was because being a father was a big responsibility and he did not think he was man enough to raise a child.” He told investigators, “I was trying to kill my son.”

The father

According to court records obtained by WHAS 11, Weitzel told investigators that he took his son the park around 11 am on August 21, while he was at the park watching his son play, he sat there and thought of ways to kill his son, then he left the park and drove around looking for a good place to crash and kill his son.
According to court records, investigators saw witnesses holding Isaiah after the crash. When a sheriff’s deputy took over holding Isaiah’s head, to make sure his neck was still, Isaiah was crying and “appeared to be fading in and out of consciousness.”

Isaiah’s mom, Nancy Lopez, told InsideEdition

“He’s doing better every day thank god. He’s my little soldier,”

One of those witnesses was Sam Schulte, who lives down the street and heard the crash.
“I pulled the window off, and I pulled the door open, my neighbor got him out of the car and put him on the ground,” Schulte said.He says he then tried to comfort the boy by rubbing his back. The crash happened in Cindy Rosa’s next door neighbor’s yard. While she was calling 911, she says she saw Weitzel “hitting the child … it looked like an elbow. It was horrifying.”
Lopez called Weitzel’s actions “horrifying” and struggled to understand what could motivate such an act. She added:
“I’m extremely broken by all of this”. “I still don’t understand how someone could be so cruel to a beautiful little human they created by choice. Isaiah was planned and he wanted to be a father at the time. I don’t know why he would try to take him away. I will never understand… But I hope he stays in jail for the rest of his life.”
“I’m just glad that my little boy is alive and is going to recover from this tragic incident. It never needed to happen.”Lopez says she takes care of Isaiah full-time, but that before this incident, the toddler spent weekends with his dad. He was supposed to be brought back to his mom Sunday afternoon, before the crash.
“He used to be a really good climber,” Lopez said. “He loves to play and run around. He can’t walk now; he’s not going to be walking for another two months.”

Isaiah was taken to Children’s Hospital Colorado, where he was treated and went home after several days.
In addition to attempted first-degree murder, Weitzel has been charged with child abuse, assault, criminal mischief, possession of a controlled substance and vehicular assault.
