Dear Peter Obi,
In your unpatriotic rants about Nigeria’s poor performance at the Paris Olympics, you singled out only two out of 88 athletes for mention. You complained bitterly about the alleged mistreatment of these two Olympians, namely Favour Ofili and Annette Echikunwoke, who switched allegiance to the United States.
Coincidentally, they happened to be Igbo, like you.
And then you insulted Nigeria over the case involving Ese Ukpeseraye, Nigeria’s first-ever Olympic cyclist, who had to borrow a bicycle from the German team. While neglecting to tell your gullible audience that since Miss Ukpeseraye did not qualify for the Olympics, Nigeria had no reason to invest $36,00 for the specialised bicycle she needed.
She only got called while the Olympic Games were already being held because a country was disqualified at the last minute.
You also had no words for Tobi Amusan, who could have won a medal for Nigeria had she had better support from our fellow citizens, whose attention was diverted by the Days of Rage protests that you and Omoyele Sowore promoted.
Your only concern was for the two Igbo athletes you felt were not given enough support by Nigeria.
Peter, is this not proof that you are too parochial to govern a multiethnic and religiously heterogeneous nation like Nigeria?
This is the same way you condemned the deaths of protesters in Northern Nigeria and ignored, to this day, the killings of four police officers, seven traditional rulers, and five traders in the Southeast. Even after Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, through Simon Ekpa, claimed responsibility for some of the killings, you have still not condemned either IPOB or the massacre.
Peter, Nigeria needs a leader who can love all Nigerians, not one who only loves people of his ethnic nationality.
