The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down a pharmacy on Onitsha Crescent, Area 11, Garki, Abuja, for selling expired and unregistered drugs.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, NAFDAC revealed that the enforcement operation was prompted by a tip-off from a concerned citizen.
During the raid, officials discovered expired products worth over ₦7 million, including “H-Pylori” test kits, which pose serious public health risks.
The statement read:
“NAFDAC has sealed off a pharmacy located at Onitsha Crescent, Area 11, Garki, Abuja, for selling expired and unregistered drugs. Acting on a tip-off, NAFDAC’s enforcement team uncovered expired items valued at over ₦7 million, including expired ‘H-Pylori’ test kits, which posed significant risks to public health.
“Despite efforts by pharmacy staff to obstruct the operation, the enforcement team confiscated the expired products and secured the premises. The pharmacy’s Managing Director and Superintendent Pharmacist have been arrested for further questioning, and stringent sanctions will be applied to deter unethical practices.”
NAFDAC urged the public to stay vigilant when purchasing regulated products and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.
