ASSBIFI Threatens to Close Down Operations In Response To Attacks On Bank Workers

The Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI) has threatened to shut down operations across the banking sector in response to the increasing incidents of attacks on bank workers in Nigeria.

In a statement released by the union’s president, Comrade Oyinkan Olasanoye, ASSBIFI expressed its concerns over the spate of attacks on bank workers, noting that several employees have been injured or killed in recent months.

The statement reads, “We are deeply concerned about the increasing incidents of attacks on bank workers in Nigeria, which have resulted in the loss of lives and property. This trend is unacceptable and must be addressed urgently.”

Olasanoye went on to explain that the union had made several attempts to engage with the government and the Nigerian Police Force to address the issue, but their efforts had yielded little results. As a result, the union has decided to take more drastic action to protect its members.

“We have decided that we can no longer sit idly by and watch our members being attacked and killed. Therefore, we are left with no option but to shut down operations across the banking sector until our demands are met,” Olasanoye said.

The union’s demands include increased security measures for bank workers, more robust punishment for perpetrators of attacks on bank workers, and compensation for families of workers who have been killed or injured in attacks.

The decision to shut down operations across the banking sector is expected to have a significant impact on the economy, as banks are critical to the functioning of businesses and individuals in Nigeria. However, the union has insisted that the safety and well-being of its members must come first.

The Nigerian government has yet to respond to ASSBIFI’s threat to shut down operations, but it is hoped that the situation can be resolved through dialogue before it comes to that.

In the meantime, the union has called on all its members to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety in the face of these attacks.
