The All Progressives Congress (APC) has supplicated the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to strike out Atiku Abubakar’s request against President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-appointment asserting that the previous VP “is anything but a Nigerian by birth.”

At the court on Thursday, June 13, 2019, Counsel to the APC, Lateef Fagbemi, decided while reacting to the solicitors’ movement seeking the striking out of APC’s reply to the request.

“My Lord, I am opposing this application on the qualification of the first petitioner (Abubakar). I am standing by the proof we have supplied in our reply,” Fagbemi said.

“The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the February 23 presidential election was not qualified to contest the election in the first place.

“I, therefore, pray the tribunal to strike out the petitioners’ application for lacking in competence and merit,’’ he added.

The APC demanded that Abubakar was not a native of Nigeria by birth and should not to have even been permitted to challenge in any case.

Counsel to the PDP, Chris Uche, in any case, contended that noteworthy records demonstrated that the previous Vice President was a native of Nigeria by birth.

Uche, in this way, encouraged the board to disapprove Fagbemi’s submission by allowing the application.

The PDP is additionally looking for a request of the court to examine the server and other decision materials utilized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
