Workmen were seen on the evening of June 17, cutting grass along a major road in Makurdi in preparation for President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Benue State.
Tinubu announced that he would visit Benue State on June 18, following a tragic incident in which over 200 people were killed in Makurdi by armed herdsmen between the night of June 13 and the morning of June 14.
In anticipation of his visit, the Benue State government declared June 18 a public holiday. They also encouraged support groups to participate in a colourful procession, forming a “shoulder-to-shoulder” display from the airport to Wurukum roundabout and then to the Government House in Makurdi.
Overnight, workers were hired to cut the grass along the road leading from the airport.
The preparations being made to welcome the President have sparked divided opinions, with many questioning how these efforts will address the increased killings by herdsmen in Benue State.
