Los Angeles (AP) – Bronny James, the 19-year-old son of NBA legend LeBron James, has announced his intention to enter the NBA Draft after just one season at the University of Southern California (USC).
This decision comes after a year marked by both on-court promise and a health scare. James’ freshman season was cut short due to recovery from cardiac arrest.
The news comes via James’ Instagram account, where he also revealed he plans to retain his college eligibility by entering the transfer portal. This move allows him to play for another school while still pursuing his NBA dreams.
James’ announcement coincides with a coaching change at USC. Longtime coach Andy Enfield departed for SMU, and the Trojans recently named Eric Musselman as his replacement. It’s unclear how this coaching shift impacted James’ decision.
Despite the shortened season, James showcased his talent on the court. While his draft position remains to be seen, NBA scouts will undoubtedly be interested in the young player with a famous basketball pedigree. The college basketball world will also be watching closely to see which program lands Bronny James for his remaining collegiate years.
