“Brutal honesty is a recipe for disaster in a marriage” – Married man warns married couples

A married man has warned couples against downing their partner’s ego on the name of being frank. 

He said this in reaction to an interview that sparked outrage after the husband stated that his wife was not his spec when they met and she is still not there yet. 

Giving his opinion, Chimezie Okpoko wrote: ‘Massaging your partner’s ego in private and public is part of the package you sign up for when you decide to get married. 

‘This is why your wife’s food is the best, even if you know 20 restaurants that cook better than she does. She asks you, “Babe, how’s the food?” and you reply with, “Babe, this is the best meal I’ve ever eaten.” 

‘This makes her smile and encourages her to continue making your meals with joy. 

‘Thus, this is why you compliment your wife each time she dresses up to go out. You tell her she’s the most beautiful woman in the world because it makes her feel good, even if you know a million women finer than her. 

‘You are not married to them, you are married to her. 

‘You have a duty to make her happy. This is why you should never publicly insinuate or state that your wife or husband isn’t your type or wasn’t your type when you met them. 

‘Apart from giving trolls something to feed off of, you’re not doing your wife any favors when you say things like this. 

‘Even if they don’t process it immediately, chances are that it is imprinted in their head and will come out at a later date. 

‘“Wife, baby, do you think I’m fat? You? You’re perfect, baby”. 

‘She knows what fat looks like, and only she will advise herself. 

‘That’s not your job, and if things get out of hand and you have to step in, you handle it with love and care. 

‘Brutal honesty is a recipe for disaster in a marriage. Marriage isn’t a shrine or a law court. 

‘But what do I know? I’ve only been married for a year!’
