Chaos in Abuja as protesters storm National Assembly, demand justice for Natasha amid Akpabio scandal

Chaos unfolded at the National Assembly complex on Wednesday, March 5, as protesters stormed the premises to demand justice for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The demonstrators, seen in a viral video, called for a thorough investigation into her allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The protest, which began as early as 8 a.m., coincided with a crucial hearing by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.

Senator Natasha was expected to appear before the panel amid the growing controversy surrounding her claims.

Security operatives swiftly intervened, using tear gas to disperse the demonstrators. Despite the police crackdown, the protesters regrouped at the Unity Fountain in Abuja, where they continued their demonstration, insisting on accountability and justice.

The drama follows a heated exchange between Senator Natasha and Akpabio over a seating arrangement during a Senate plenary on February 20.

Days later, Natasha, in a televised interview, accused the Senate President of making inappropriate advances toward her.

She alleged that Akpabio once told her to offer him “enjoyment” in exchange for the passage of a bill, adding that her husband is one of the witnesses to the incident.
