Chelsea Striker Tenders Apology After Breaking Covid-19 Protocols

Tammy Abraham has issued a public apology after breaking coronavirus restrictions to attend his birthday party, along with England team-mates Ben Chilwell and Jadon Sancho.

Chelsea striker Abraham, Blues colleague Chilwell and Borussia Dortmund winger Sancho are all due to link up with the rest of Gareth Southgate’s England squad on Monday at St George’s Park ahead of a clash against Wales at Wembley on Thursday.

The Sun claim around 20 people attended the surprise party at Abraham’s house in London, which goes against current government restrictions which prevents groups of more than six meeting.

The gathering happened just hours after Chelsea’s 4-0 drubbing of Crystal Palace on Saturday, in which Abraham and Chilwell featured.

Sancho missed Borussia Dortmund’s match over the weekend due to a respiratory illness; he has tested negative for Covid.

Abraham, 23, his since apologised for his actions, however, insisting he was not aware of the event before it took place.

Abraham said: “I arrived home to find a small surprise gathering.

“Though I was totally unaware this was planned, I would like to wholeheartedly apologise for the naivety shown for the organisation and attending of this gathering.

“All I can do now is learn from it, apologise to everyone and ensure it never happens again.”

Meanwhile, a source close to Abraham said of the party: “He genuinely had no idea it was going to happen. He and Sancho didn’t drink alcohol.

“It was family and very close friends only — and they even did temperature checks on arrival.”

The Sun also report that the Football Association have reviewed the incident, and will not take action against the trio.

After kicking off with a friendly against Wales on Thursday, England will also host Belgium and Denmark in the Nations League on Sunday and Wednesday, respectively.
