Activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore will have to wait until June 30 to know his fate after a Federal High Court in Abuja fixed the date to rule on his application seeking the restoration of his bail.
The court, presided over by Justice Mohammed Umar, adjourned the matter on Wednesday after both the defence and prosecution adopted their processes in the application.
Sowore is asking the court to restore his bail and set aside the bench warrant issued against him after he failed to appear in court for his trial on allegations bordering on cybercrime and criminal defamation.
The Department of State Services (DSS) is prosecuting the activist over allegations that he described President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal” in posts shared on his X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook accounts.
Sowore has, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The court had earlier revoked his bail on June 16 and issued a warrant for his arrest. On Monday, it ordered that he be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the determination of his application challenging the bail revocation.
The development has continued to attract attention from supporters and political observers, many of whom are awaiting the court’s ruling.
With June 30 now fixed for ruling, attention remains on the court as Sowore continues his legal battle from custody.
