Kabara had presented three new lawyers that would represent him in the case of blasphemy against the Prophet of Islam.

A controversial Islamic cleric has been denied bail by the court. 

Justice Sarki Yola, presiding over the case of an alleged blasphemy against controversial Kano sheikh, Abduljabar Nasiru Kabara denied him bail. 

Yola cited peace in the state as well as Kabara’s personal safety as grounds for refusing him bail. Kabara had presented three new lawyers that would represent him in the case of blasphemy against the Prophet of Islam. 

His lead counsel, Barrister Umar Muhammad, who is leading two others, told the court that he was now standing for Kabara in the case. 

He then went ahead to pray for the bail of his client on the excuse that the sheikh is the breadwinner of his family and that he has underage children who need his fatherly care. 

Similarly, the lead counsel seeks the court to provide him with the records of proceedings in the case to give him an idea of where the case stands. 

Yola, in his response, denied the sheikh bail insisting that granting him bail will jeopardize his safety as well as create chaos in the state. He adjourned to 14th October 2021 to continue in the case.
