According to a report by SaharaReporters, a Federal High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has fixed November 22 to rule on the bail application of a 21-year-old young woman arrested and enslaved by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in Imo State.
The police had arrested Okolie in June 2021 for allegedly being friends with a suspected member of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
She was later transferred to Abuja, despite efforts by her family members to secure her release.
At the resumed hearing of the bail application on Thursday before Justice Taiwo Taiwo, her lawyers, Ihensekhien Samuel (jnr) and Deji Ajare, reminded the court of the bail granted to Glory Okolie by the FCT High Court which the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, and Attorney-General of Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, flouted.
Ihensekhien argued that the AGF and IGP being the prosecution should be prevented from opposing the bail application since they were in contempt of the previous orders of the FCT High Court which had coordinate and concurrent jurisdiction with the Federal High Court.
The presiding judge noted the arguments advanced by the counselS to the applicant and adjourned the case to 22nd November 2021 for ruling.
Recall that Justice Chinedu Origi of FCT High Court had on August 28, 2021, granted bail to Okolie with a Level 12 civil servant as a surety but the police had refused to release her.
