Nigerian music star Davido Adeleke has reacted after former presidential aide Reno Omokri criticised his advocacy for abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oyo State during a global FIFA event.
The drama began after Davido used his appearance at a FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert in Los Angeles to draw attention to the kidnapping incident.
During his performance at the event, Davido wore a customised outfit carrying the names of 39 abducted schoolchildren and seven teachers reportedly taken from communities in Oyo State.
The black jacket also had the bold inscription “Bring Them Home,” while his inner shirt carried the word “Nigeria,” making his performance a public call for action.
In a post shared after the concert, Davido simply repeated his message.
He wrote: “BRING THEM HOME.”
Reacting to the gesture, Reno Omokri expressed concern over the use of public platforms to highlight kidnapping cases.
He argued that too much attention could sometimes backfire. Citing a popular quote often linked to Margaret Thatcher, he stated that “publicity is the oxygen of terrorism,” suggesting that such exposure could benefit criminal groups.
Omokri maintained that while Davido’s intention may be genuine, the approach could have unintended consequences.
Instead of directly engaging in a back-and-forth, Davido responded through his social media posts.
He shared several photos from the FIFA concert and continued to push his message without addressing the criticism in detail.
“BRING THEM HOME,” he wrote, repeating the caption.
