According to transfer news from Foot Mercato (h/t SportsWitness), The loan transfer of out-of-favour Manchester United star Donny van de Beek to Crystal palace is ‘almost complete.’ 

Donny van de Beek has become a diminishing figure of his Ajax self at Old Trafford. The Dutch star became one of the most sought-after midfielders in the world after Champions League heroics in 2019/20. For similar reasons, It was a massive win for United when they signed him in the summer transfer window of 2020. 

However, axed manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær took a strange stance regarding the use of Donny van de Beek. With only 42 appearances in 2 seasons, it seems the former Ajax man was never in the plans of the Norwegian manager.

The situation hasn’t changed under Ralf Rangnick. Even though the German manager gave him some chances to pick the pace, the Dutch star failed to make it a grand success and soon found his place on the substitute bench. In an attempt to rejuvenate his career, the midfielder is eyeing a loan move. 

Crystal Palace showed interest recently in loaning Van de Beek in the January transfer window. Now, it is believed that Patrick Vieira’s team has completed 90% of the proceedings and are on the verge of completing the transfer.

A chance to get back his career on track? 

Looking at the highlights from his Ajax days, it’s evident that Van de Beek doesn’t lack the talent. Even though Solskjær’s role could be termed as a viable reason for his performance drop, he has to show something solid to the new manager in order to cement a position.

With Pogba still sidelined, there was a massive chance to capture the centre stage. United currently lacks a creative midfielder who can create opportunities for the front line by making successful passes. His last year’s performance with Ajax suggests that he can be one of the best-suited players for the role.

Many players take a setback when adapting to the Premier League environment. Van de Beek could be going through a similar phrase, and getting good game time could help him rejuvenate his form. Therefore, the loan move to Palace would undoubtedly help him. 

United signed him on a lucrative deal in 2020. So the Red Devils board have to find a way to get into an agreement that would see the Eagles pay the total wages of the Dutch star. In such a scenario, our team could use the fund in signing priority targets in the summer.
