Exclusive: ‘I’m Back In Turkey For Fresh Start, Bigger Things’ –Okoli

Nigerian midfielder, Onyedika Paschal Okoli, is aiming for a bigger and better career prospect in Turkey after returning to the South-East European nation’s Super Lig following a botched loan move to Bosnia, Completesports reports.

Okoli – a box to box midfielder who can also play as a defender, had a spell at Bursaspor before his sojourn to Bosnia where he joined Celik Zenica.

The 23 year old spent the 2019/2020 season at Celik Zenica. But irreconciliable issues ensured that he mutually terminated the contract.

The 23-year-old enjoyed club teammates experience with Super Eagles assistant Captain, William Troost Ekong, Shehu Abdullahi and Mikel Agu while the quartet were at Bursaspor in 2018.

“It was great playing alongside Ekong, Shehu and Mikel Agu, I learnt a lot from them, I am inspired to break more grounds this season,” Okoli told Completesports.

Blessed with incredible ball winning ability and excellent distribution techniques, Okoli also plays in all four defensive roles – a quality that stands him out as a utility option in any team. This is an attribute that likens him to Super Eagles and Leicester City strong man, Wilfred Ndidi.

He is now back in Turkey with some undisclosed clubs in talks with his intermediary for a possible deal. “I’m back in Turkey and I wish to hit it bigger this time around with another club,” Okoli said with form optimism. “I am making moves to join a new club. Some clubs are in the picture. I hope in no distant time, my manager and my Intermediary will come out with what will better my career”.

Fondly known as Okonta, Okoli also has his eyes set on a possible Super Eagles duty ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, campaign. “It feels good to represent one’s country in big tournaments like the Nations Cup. It’s the pride of every player. I’m not exempted. “But it’s one at a time. Once the opportunity calls, why not?”, he queried, rather rhetorically.
