Fans Blast Messi Over Barcelona’s Copa del Rey Exit

Inaki Williams late goal in injury time was enough to knock out Catalans giant Barcelona from the quarter final of Copa del Rey. Barcelona were expected to capitalize on rival Real Madrid’s elimination from the competition but the Catalans were unable to defeat Athletic Bilbao at the San Mames .

Barcelona’s coach Quique Setién left French forward Antoine Greizmann in substitution bench and opted to use Lionel Messi as a false nine while being flanked by teenager Ansui Fati on the left and Sergi Roberto on the right. Barcelona struggled to find the back of the net for the entire duration of the game with Barça’s best chance coming in the 88th minute when Arthur slots the ball into the part of Lionel Messi but the Argentine shot was blocked by Athletic Bilbao’s goal keeper.

Inaki Williams got the only goal of the game late into injury time, when he headed home an in swinging cross from Gomez to win the game for the home team.

Barcelona joins Real Madrid, Villarreal and Valencia to exit Copa del Rey in the quarter final after losing 1-0 to Athletic Bilbao.

For the first time since the 2002/2003 season, neither Atletico Madrid, Barcelona nor Real Madrid will play in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.
