A deputy with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in Florida accidentally Tasered his fellow officer during a chaotic arrest, as captured in a viral video circulating on social media.
The incident occurred Saturday night, June 21, following a traffic stop involving suspect Kheilan Haynes, who allegedly ran a red light. According to officials, Haynes began resisting arrest after being pulled over, leading to a struggle with deputies near a Jeep.
In the footage, two deputies are seen wrestling Haynes to the ground. One deputy steps back, draws his Taser, and fires; but instead of hitting the suspect, he strikes his partner in the back. The unintended target immediately stiffens and collapses, while Haynes escapes the scuffle and flees on foot.
According to the official arrest report, Sergeant T. Robinson admitted to mistakenly firing the Taser into Officer Z.J. Poole. Robinson stated that his initial Taser deployment struck Haynes but appeared ineffective. He fired a second time, and the probes hit Poole instead.
The suspect was later apprehended after a foot chase and was successfully subdued using a Taser.
Haynes now faces multiple charges, including felony possession of fentanyl, and misdemeanors for resisting arrest without violence and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana.
The sheriff’s office has not confirmed whether any disciplinary actions will follow the accidental deployment. Officer Poole’s condition has not been disclosed.
