Recently fired FC Andorra coach Gabri, a former Barcelona player, has hit out at the club’s owner Gerard Pique.

Pique bought FC Andorra in December 2018 and made strong>Gabri coach shortly after the takeover was completed, but Gabri was removed as coach in February 2020 after three consecutive losses and no victories in seven games in Segunda B.

“It was difficult for me to understand the decision, which was obviously Pique’s,” Gabri told RAC1.

“First I was told by the board and then by him.

“He had the last word.

“Professionally, I was disappointed.”

The former coach believes the decision was rash and unjust, stating that the 2019/20 season’s objectives changed suddenly.

“I lost three games and they decided that I had to be dismissed,” Gabri continued.

“They told me that they didn’t see me capable of reversing the situation to get the team into the playoffs.”

FC Andorra managed to skip playing in the Spanish Tercera Division after Pique paid for his club to take Reus’ place in the Segunda B, something which Gabri believes made his own position even more difficult.

“That team was made in two weeks,” Gabri said.

“It was designed to play in Tercera and to try to fight for promotion to the Segunda B.

“We went up, but even the players we signed were told that they might even suffer in order not to go down.

“After the first few matches it was assumed that FC Andorra would be towards the bottom of the table.

“But then we were leaders for four games and only two other teams were top of the table more.

“These are not bad numbers for a team that had just been promoted and had not been at that level for 20 years.

“They started to believe that going up from the Segunda B to the Segunda was going to be easy.”
