Former US President Joe Biden’s prostate cancer has metastasized into his bones and spread further into his body, his son Hunter Biden said in a late Friday interview with the BBC.
Hunter Biden said the disease has taken a “very painful” toll on his father, who has remained outspoken on politics since leaving office in 2024.
“It’s very debilitating in many respects,” he continued. “But he’s still out there. He’s still doing his thing. He so believes in this country.”
Biden’s office announced the diagnosis in May 2025, saying he was facing an “aggressive” cancer that was found during a routine medical exam.
The former president completed a course of radiation treatment last October, his office later shared. He also underwent a separate procedure to remove skin cancer cells from his forehead. The office and family have shared few details since.
He is expected to live with cancer for the rest of his life, his wife, Jill Biden, told NBC’s “Today Show” in June.
At 82 years old, Biden was the oldest president in American history by the time he left office. His aides have received intense criticism for allegedly not being forthcoming about the former president’s health — a factor that played into his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential election. He has an upcoming memoir scheduled for publication on Nov. 17.
