Herdsmen Killings: Enugu State Governor Holds Emergency Meeting With Security Agencies As Death Toll Rises

Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the Governor of Enugu State has called an emergency security meeting.

The governor is holding emergency security meeting with heads of all the security agencies over the gruesome killings of residents of Eha-Amufu communities in the Isi-Uzo local government area of the state.

SaharaReporters reports that since Monday, no fewer than 60 people have been killed including 16 persons on Thursday at Ishialu Eboh autonomous community in Eha-Amufu.

The emergency security meeting going on at the Government House, Enugu is being chaired by Governor Ugwuanyi, SaharaReporters learnt.

Those in attendance are; the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Ahmed Ammani; the Garrison Commander, 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. M.K Ibrahim; the Air Commander, 553 Base Services Group, Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Enugu, Air Commodore Isaiah Taiwo; the State Director, Department of State Services (DSS), Habu Maina Daluwa; and the State Commandant, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Aloysius Obiorah.

Others are the Controller of Corrections, Nigerian Correctional Service, Enugu State Command, Nicholas Obiako; the Acting Comptroller of Immigration, Enugu State Command, DCI Mukhtar T. Musa; the Assistant Comptroller of Customs, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi Command, AC Opaluwa O.P; and the representative of the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Enugu, Anthony Ogbodo.

SaharaReporters gathered that the meeting was sequel to the bloody invasion of Agu-Amede, Mgbuji and Eboh communities in Eha-Amufu by gunmen believed to be Fulani herdsmen.

It was gathered that since January 5, 2021 that no fewer than 120 residents of the three communities had been killed by the herdsmen, with several farm settlements and villages sacked by the invading assailants.

Most of the victims of the killings are women and children.

Recall that a pregnant woman had her stomach slit and her foetus taken away in August 2021.
