Hoodlums Chase Away Senator Abe’s Supporters In Oyigbo, Rivers

Senator Abe said his supporters in the area informed him on Monday morning (today) that a group of boys had invaded and disrupted the preparation at the community hall in the Ayama area of Oyigbo.

The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Abe has lamented after hoodlums disrupted his campaign in Oyigbo area of the state.

While addressing journalists in Port Harcourt, Senator Abe said his supporters in the area informed him on Monday morning that a group of boys had invaded and disrupted the preparation at the community hall in the Ayama area of Oyigbo which was the venue of a meeting with his supporters.

He said the meeting was, however, moved to the private residence of a supporter still in Oyigbo even though the town hall which he was asked not to use was his constituency project while serving as a Senator.

Senator Abe said while traveling from Port Harcourt to attend the meeting in the private residence of his supporter, a group of boys, this time, accosted his motorcade in a community called Egberu, one of the entry points to Oyigbo from Tai Local Government Area.

He said the youths, armed with dangerous weapons, demanded that he returned to Port Harcourt because the area is the territory of the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ambassador Desmond Akawor.

The APC chieftain claimed the incident is not the first against him and his supporters. He said, he decided not to speak about it in order not to put Rivers in the wrong headlines consistently.

According to him, there were similar incidents in Kana and Gokana local government areas where his supporters were harassed.

Senator Abe, however, said no intimidation can scare him from contesting the election while calling on politicians to play by the rules.

The recent incident has been reported to the police, he said, hoping that the new Commissioner of Police will provide the needed security for campaigns and elections.

The PDP Chairman in Rivers State Ambassador Desmond Akawor has not responded to calls and a text message sent to his phone about the incident.
