”I forged certificates to help the needy” – 75-year-old retired teacher

The Anambra State Police Command has paraded a 75-year- old retired teacher named Onuzuruike Udu, who allegedly forged certificates of some tertiary institutions, National Youth Service Corps discharge and exemption certificates for people“out of milk of human kindness.”

According to the old man, he committed the act out of the necessity to help the youths and the downtrodden.
“I was in the school system. I knew what the system looked like, where you would fail a brilliant child and pass a dull one because of gratification.
“So when I retired from the system, I decided that I would make sure I assist some of these less privileged by helping them to grow.
“I’m a grandfather and I’m supposed to do the needful at my age. I don’t forgecertificates, I help people to grow and advance to the best I could.
“If you leave these children, the system will not allow them to get jobs; they won’t get certificates to advance. So, that’s why I came in to help.
“So, what I do is out of milk of human kindness. I don’t forge certificates, I help people to grow,” the old man said. The Anambra State Police Command had on Wednesday paraded the 75-year- old Udu for allegedly forging certificates.
Also paraded with him was a 54-year-old Evelyn Nweke, a business centre operator, said to be his accomplice.
They were accused of forging certificates of some tertiary institutions, National Youth Service Corps discharge and exemption certificates and printing fake Nigerian currency.
The police alleged that the duo had been doing the business together for a long time.
Among fake certificates recovered from them were those of University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Federal Polytechnic, Oko, College of Education, Umunze, as well as NYSC discharge and exemption certificates.
Other documents recovered from them were certificates for Senior Community Health Extension Workers, certificates for Junior Community Health Extension Workers, National Business and Technical Examination Board certificate.
Mrs. Nweke said she was not aware that the documents were forged, admitting however that the man used to bring documents for her to change some of the contents.
The police said they would soon be charged to court.
