Nigerian singer Gabriel Oche Amanyi, better known as Terry G, has sparked intense reactions online after asserting that he paved the way for artists to confidently smoke cannabis on screen.
The “Free Madness” crooner shared this bold claim on his X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that his “sacrifice” made it culturally acceptable for today’s artists to showcase marijuana in their music videos
“No hard feelings, it’s all love, but no forget say if no be my sacrifice, none of your fav go get liver to smoke Igbo for screen,” he wrote.
The post quickly ignited debates, with many users disputing the claim. They pointed out that the legendary Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was openly smoking in the ’70s, long before Terry G emerged on the scene.
Some users also mentioned other artists, such as Majek Fashek and Daddy Showkey, who were known for their bold personas well before Terry G made his debut with his eccentric sound and chaotic energy.
