Nigerian singer, Speed Darlington has sparked widespread reactions after making controversial comments about obesity, beauty and financial success in a viral video.
During the clip, the entertainer argued that obese people face discrimination and claimed they are unlikely to become billionaires, remarks that have generated mixed responses across social media.
The singer insisted that physical appearance plays a major role in how people are treated, maintaining that society often favours people it considers attractive while treating obese individuals unfairly.
According to Speed Darlington, obesity can affect opportunities in everyday life, including employment.
He said, “No rich is for fat people. If you are fat, you can never be rich in this life. No be mean, no be joke, I’m telling you the truth.”
Using a personal example, he added, “I won’t hire you, you can’t braid my hair. I don’t care how African you are, you can’t braid my hair because I got to worry about all that weight on my head. All that fatness on my head. So I’m not going to give you work.”
The singer also claimed that appearance influences success, arguing that society is more accepting of people it considers attractive.
He said, “The world is for beautiful people, it’s not for ugly people.”
Explaining his position further, Speed Darlington said obese people often struggle with their appearance, adding, “If you obese, nothing you wear fits you well. So your dress code is sloppy. This means you’re always in sweatpants, all the time.”
He concluded with another controversial statement, saying, “If we don’t like you, we won’t favour you. If you huge, you are not going to be a billionaire. Guaranteed. The world is not nice to fat people.”
