‘I’m Not Here To Walk Round The City And Enjoy The Beach’ – Rakitic Fires Barcelona Warning

Posted by on October 9, 2019,

The Croatia star has said that if he does not play more, he will assess his future at Camp Nou

Ivan Rakitic has suggested that if he does not earn more game time at Barcelona, he could seek to leave the club imminently.

He had been linked with a summer exit, with Juventus apparently closest to signing him, but Inter have reportedly been alerted to his unrest.

The San Siro side, meanwhile, will have had their ears pricked by his latest statements, in which he has indicated his desire to fight for a spot in the team while equally suggesting he is open to a move if he cannot feature regularly, having notably been left out of the squad to face Sevilla before the international break.

Away with Croatia at present, Rakitic admitted his future at club level is uncertain.

“I don’t know what will happen now,” Rakitic said. “It’s tough because I want to play and not just be part of the team. I will do everything possible to change my situation.

“I have two years left on my deal and there’s no better place to play than Barcelona, the best club in the world, but I need to play and not just enjoy walks around the city and the beach.

“I spoke with people at the club, everyone knew I had other options.

“I want to fight so that the team see me ready to deliver on the pitch. I want to thank the fans for the affection they showed me this weekend, but if nothing changes, we will have to sit down and talk about my situation again.”

Rakitic joined Barca in 2014 from Sevilla and has since played 274 matches for the Catalan side, while scoring 34 goals and laying on another 37.

During his time with the club, he has won four Primera Division titles, the Copa del Rey four times and the 2015 Champions League.

At international level, meanwhile, he has turned out over 100 times for Croatia, with his most notable achievement finishing as a runner-up in the 2018 World Cup to France, during which he and team-mate Luka Modric won critical acclaim for their classy midfield displays.

Before returning to Barcelona, he will play Euro 2020 qualifiers against Hungary and Wales for his country.
