Kepa Arrizabalaga Has The Worst Save Percentage In Premier League History

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga might be the worst goalkeeper in the history of the Premier League, according to one stat at least.

The Blues number one has come in for a lot of criticism this season and has been dropped by Frank Lampard on a couple of occasions, including the last day of the season when Chelsea needed to beat Wolves to be sure of Champions League football.

And it’s no wonder that Lampard didn’t trust the former Atletico Madrid keeper as he actually has the worst save percentage of any goalie who has played 10 or more games in Premier League history.

Chelsea conceded more goals in the league this season than 10 teams and Brighton, who finished in 15th place conceded the same amount as the fourth placed side, with 54 goals against them.

It was the worst defensive record for the west London side in over 20 years and according to other stats he has the second worst goals to game record in a single season by a Chelsea keeper.

Whilst there has been questions about the defence in front of him, the fact the world’s most expensive keeper failed to move for 14 of the 47 goals against him is shocking and he should have conceded 11 less goals

Despite the defensive frailties Lampard still took his team into the top four and a place in the Champions League next season, as well as reaching this weekend’s FA Cup final.

They have added Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech to the side for next season already and Kai Havertz also looks set to move to Stamford Bridge.

Having been linked with potential replacements for Kepa, Jamie Carragher thinks they must sign someone to be their number one if they’re to challenge for the title next season, telling Sky Sports, “I know they keep buying a lot of attackers but you see how many goals they have conceded. I think a lot of that is down to the goalkeeper, if I am being totally honest.”

“It is an area that – if they want to compete with Liverpool and Manchester City – they will have to rectify in the summer.”
