Labour Party NWC Dispels Alleged INEC Recognition of Expelled and indicted Former Chairman Abdululkadir Abdulsalam

The crisis that has continuously ro‎cked the leadership of Labour party f‎ollowing the convention held on the 3rd of October 2017 under the watch of the party’s NWC has taken a new twist as the indicted and expelled former chairman Abdulkadir Abdulsalam is allegedly still parading himself as the National chairm‎an.  This was revealed according to certain publication where Abdulsalam had insisted he remains the national chairman of the party, stressing that no group had power to remove him. The publication accredited to him as been recognised by INEC which according to the party’s constitutionally set up NWC discloses that such is not only false but outrightly misleading.

‎It could be recalled that panel of the National Working Committee of Labour Party set up to investigate former chairman Abdulkadir Abdulsalam over allegations of criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and financial misappropriation to the tune of about N1.3billion naira generated during the last General election found him culpable of the offences as revealed by the Police interim investigation reports alongside his cohorts. Chief Calistus Okafor, Deputy National Chairman (Sou‎th) and 8 others made the complaints which was investigated and confirmed that Abdulsalam was indicted and removed as the National Chairman as approved by the party’s hierachy ‎

Claims attributed to DailyTrust that Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman Mr Rotimi Lawrence Oyekanmi‎ said that the commission recognises the expelled former chairman as the authentic Chairman as against the constitutionally endorsed and elected Chairman Dr. Mike Omotosho is erroneous as INEC commission does not conduct election for the party rather the commission accepts candidate(s) approved by the party.  National Publicity Secretary of the Dr Omotosho, the Labour party new and authentic National Chairman who served in similar capacity with the removed former National Chairman Abdulsalam, Barrister Ebere Ifendu, told cross section of journalists that she is not aware of such recognition by INEC. ‎
“I am not aware of any such recognition by INEC. We had a successful convention on October 3rd and INEC witnessed it. The only report is an interim report by the police indicting Salam (Abdulsalam) on the criminal allegations against him,” she said.
