Two Celtic legends have reacted to Martin O’Neill agreeing to become the club’s permanent manager.
The 74-year-old has signed a one-year deal with the option of a further 12 months after leading the side to a Premiership and Scottish Cup double as interim boss, following talks with Dermot Desmond in London.
His appointment comes after a supporter backlash to the prospect of Robbie Keane taking charge, with Craig Bellamy also under consideration. O’Neill now faces a major rebuild, with up to 18 players expected to leave and recruitment a key focus.
Former striker Sutton welcomed the decision but warned that major issues still need to be addressed. On X, he said: “Good news Martin O’Neill is staying on as being reported but only if he has the same power as he had first time round as manager.
“Still so many other aspects need sorting… recruitment? Let’s hope we hear of a clear plan from now on going forward.”
Ex-Celtic forward Hartson was more direct in his reaction, saying: “Brilliant news… Martin back,” ending his post with a thumbs-up emoji.
